How The Cambridge Timepiece came to be...

Gown & Oars is the brainchild of Cambridge based duo Karim Faisali and James Jugg.

Karim has always had a passion for wristwatches, with a personal collection of close to 100 Swiss timepieces, however, he couldn't quite find what he was looking for. Karim set James the challenge of creating a wristwatch that offered a sense of the classic British timepiece; understated and with considered design, matched with precision Swiss movements. Working together they formed G&O with the firm belief that high quality doesn’t have to mean a high price point.

With the belief a watch should be useful and attractive but aesthetically unobtrusive, the goal with our timepieces has been to blend functionality with clean and minimal design; an exercise in restraint that leaves ample space for personal self-expression without taking the form of an antiquated, ostentatious jewel.

We’ve kept things simple and concentrated on the details, non-essentials have been omitted and subtle emphasis has been placed on the actual task of clear time recognition and a focus placed on sourcing quality materials at a modest price point.

With believe our success to be in the details, we insist on the use of highly dependable Swiss Movements, and house them within a strong steel bezel, protected from scruff and scratch by crystal glass.  Where other manufacturers add weighting to a watch, we have made ours deliberately lightweight, not overbearing nor too heavy on the wrist.  It’s a combination of British craftsmanship and Swiss timekeeping excellence.

With the help of their colleague, Jason, a member of the British Holorogical Institute and master watchmaker, James and Karim design, create, and assemble the Gown & Oars range from our workshop and service centre in the heart of Cambridge.
